Following the death of Alpha (played by Samantha Morton), TWD’s tenth season has been building up to an epic final battle between the survivors and the Whisperers.
The ninth and tenth seasons of the post-apocalyptic zombie have been helmed by new showrunner Angela Kang and were praised as a return to form for the series.
Episode 16, A Certain Doom, was delayed after post-production was unable to be completed following lockdown procedures being put in place.
TWD’s editors and special effects team are still unsure when the episode will be completed, but AMC has assured fans the current season will conclude at some point in 2020.
Meanwhile, fans of Robert Kirkman’s original comic books have been eagerly anticipating the television series to adapt the renowned Commonwealth arc from later issues.
Viewers were given a preview of what’s to come when Ezekiel (Khary Payton), Eugene (Josh McDermitt) and Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura) formed their own posse.
In the latest episodes, which aired back in April, the new squad were introduced to new character Princess (Paola Lázaro) in Pittsburgh.
During an appearance on Friday Night in With the Morgans, Angela Kang teased a powerful new allegiance will form in the upcoming finale.
She continued: “And then the big story that we have been following all season with the Whisperers.
“Now that Alpha is gone and Beta is having to step up into that leadership role – with his kinda half-Alpha and Beta face – we’re going to see our people take their stand against Beta and the Whisperers.”
As the action heats up in episode 16, audiences are anticipating the defeat of Beta to make way for new threats in season 11.
Meanwhile, a short promotional trailer has teased the return of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) in the season finale.
TWD’s producer and director Greg Nicotero has also hinted at some ‘jaw-dropping’ moments in the final minutes of season ten when he spoke to Fandom.
He said: “It’s already been revealed that Maggie’s return is in the finale, and it tees us up very well for season 11 that it’s a little agonising for me to not be able to talk about.
“Because the last two minutes of the finale are going to just… people’s jaws are going to drop.”
The Walking Dead season 10 will conclude in 2020 on AMC and is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
