Kate Garraway, 53, enlisted close friend Myleene Klass to help organise son Billy’s special day, as he celebrated his 11th birthday in style however minus his sick dad Derek Draper. On Instagram, the Good Morning Britain host put on a brave face as her husband remains in intensive care and documented the event with snaps of them setting up.
The songstress attended the event alongside her partner Simon Motson, with her children Hero, Ava and son Apollo.
Showing her support for Kate, Myleene wrote: “@kategarraway your party planners have arrived.”
Billy was treated to a “Fortnite” themed birthday cake, that included tiered cupcakes.
The front door of Kate’s house was arched with multicoloured balloons in various sizes.
Ben Shephard told Kate: “It’s lovely having you back, back to work. First day back in quite a while,” adding: “Nothing has gone wrong yet.”
But she said: “Quite a lot has gone wrong this morning already. The car to pick me up didn’t show up”, and her computer installed a two-hour update when she got in.
“Two hours getting in early was utterly wasted!” she added
Kate explained she had done what she always does in a “crisis” – “put on fake tan, put very long fake eyelashes on and go blonder”.
The TV host previously said she was told six times that Derek was not “going to make it”.
However his condition has begun to stabilise, as she divulged: “Wonderfully his eyes are opening but we have no real knowledge of what he can see and feel and hear.”
“It’s great that there are some flickers of hope.”
“His lungs are starting to recover a little bit, his kidneys are doing better, his liver is doing better, but they don’t know how much better it can get.”
