I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! hosts Ant McPartlin, 44, and Declan Donnelly, 44, will be on hand to oversee this year’s proceedings from a yet unknown British location. The UK edition will see the cast of celebrities face the usual terrors and challenges of rural life, with the camp being based on the grounds of a UK castle. The news has been confirmed just months before the ITV reality show was set to return to screens in November in the Australian outback.
ITV’s Director of Television, Kevin Lygo, said: “We announced last week that we were doing all we could to make the series and I’m thrilled that we can bring the show to viewers albeit not in the jungle.
“We have a great team both on and off-screen and I know they will produce a hugely entertaining series.”
Director of Entertainment at ITV Studios, Richard Cowles, added: “We pulled out all the stops to try and make the series happen in Australia.
“Unfortunately, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and despite us looking at many different contingencies, it became apparent that it just wasn’t possible for us to travel and make the show there.
“However, we are all really excited about a UK version of I’m A Celebrity. While it will certainly be different producing the show from the UK, the same tone and feel will remain.”
The Entertainment Director added: “Our celebrities will probably have to swap shorts for thermals but they can still look forward to a basic diet of rice and beans and plenty of thrills and surprises along the way”.
As of yet, the cast for this year’s series hasn’t been announced, with the full line-up likely to be unveiled a week before the show goes live.
In a twist to coincide with the change of location, the winner will be crowned King or Queen of the Castle, instead of the jungle.
Fans of the show have already reacted to the news on social media and it seems viewers are very interested in the shake-up to proceedings.
A sixth asked: “Is this a joke? Should’ve just cancelled this year!”, with a seventh sharing: “Might as well have not gone ahead with this year at all!”
Although they will be back on hand to host the first-ever UK edition of the programme, it seems Ant and Dec won’t be reacting to the news.
The pair are currently taking a break from social media, so it is unlikely fans will share their take on the move.
Taking to Instagram last week, the duo posted a picture of themselves on sun loungers, and told their 4.1 million followers they would be “back in four weeks”.
They wrote: “We’re both taking a break for a few weeks to spend time with family and friends. Wishing everyone a great month and we’ll see you at the end of August!”
The rumour mill is ready going into overdrive as to who will be signing up, with names from the world of television, music, sport and more among them.
Coral bookmakers have Love Island star Amy Hart, 28, as one of the favourites to take part, with her odds of signing up at 1/2.
Spokesperson Harry Aitkenhead said: “Amy spent last summer on our screens and we think this winter she’ll be back on ITV but in a very different surrounding. We make her odds on to enter the jungle, and think she could be perfect for I’m a Celeb.”
