BBC’s Doctor Who was left on an uncertain conclusion earlier this year which saw The Doctor (played by Jodie Whittaker) imprisoned in the depths of space. In the upcoming festive special, viewers will see The Doctor remain trapped as her companions have to try and work out how to fix the perils that lie on earth. But as Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) will endeavour to help out, it seems he will have a vital role in securing The Doctor’s freedom after Showrunner Chris admitted: “I really wanted Captain Jack to meet the 13th Doctor.”
Season 12 came to an explosive end as The Doctor and her companions were pitted up against the Cybermen.
And there were many twists and turns throughout the season as it emerged The Doctor was in fact, The Timeless Child.
But with many more questions to be answered upon the show’s return, fans know one person who will be back to help The Doctor’s plight.
Captain Jack will team up with Yaz (Mandip Gill), Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Graham (Bradley Walsh) amid The Doctor’s absence as they attempt to save the world from the threat of the Daleks.
It seems as though Jack may just manage to get the trio through the challenge and reunite them with The Doctor after a huge clue was dropped.
He made a cameo appearance in season 12 when he came face-to-face with the Time Lord’s companions.
The friend of The Doctor urged them to pass on a warning to The Doctor during ‘Fugitive of the Judoon’.
And now, show writer Chris Chibnall has reminded viewers of Jack’s connection to the Daleks and revealed how far ahead his return was planned.
Whilst Jack will be a major part of the action, Chris also hinted he could end up being the one who saved his old friend.
“He’ll be really important to Yaz, and Graham, and Ryan as well. The moment he finally meets the Doctor should be great if that were to happen.”
“I really wanted Captain Jack to meet the 13th Doctor, and it’d been a long time since he’d been on screen in Doctor Who, it was well overdue,” he added to Digital Spy.
It seems this clue means he will indeed end up coming face-to-face with The Doctor in the upcoming episode.
But will Captain Jack manage to get her back with all her companions, or could there be some heartbreak in store?
Elsewhere, there will be some emotional scenes to come as both Graham and Ryan will be ending their travels with The Doctor.
Yaz will remain exploring time and space but it’s not yet known whether her fellow companions will be replaced.
Will all the gang manage to get their happy endings or will some, or could Graham and Ryan fail to make it out alive this New Year?
Doctor Who seasons 1-12 can be streamed on BBC iPlayer now.
