Celebrity MasterChef has returned with a host of TV, sport and reality stars ready to whip up a storm in the BBC kitchen. One aspiring chef, in particular, has been praised by viewers for his determination with Amar Latif being the show’s first blind contestant. However, the travel presenter revealed he very nearly didn’t agree to be a part of the line-up.
John Torode and Gregg Wallace have already sent through two batches of semi-finalists and are in the third week of the competition.
This week Amar, Gethin Jones, Jeff Brazier, Felicity Montagu and Lady Leshurr tried their hardest to impress the judges.
Unfortunately, Jeff wasn’t able to earn John and Gregg’s seal of approval and was sent home.
Tonight, the remaining contestants will be tasked with cooking a two-course meal for three former champions.
Amar has proved to be a big hit with Celebrity MasterChef viewers but the presenter and travel company owner revealed he almost didn’t sign-up to the show.
During an appearance on The One Show, Amar said: “MasterChef had contacted me last year and said did I want to go on and I said, ‘Tell them I’m blind and I can’t cook.’
“They disappeared and this year they came back and I told my agent to tell them I’m still blind and I still can’t cook.
“But this time they wouldn’t let me get away with it and they said, ‘We’ll make it happen.’”
Amar will have the opportunity to impress the judges this evening for a spot in the semi-final but will he make it through?
Shyko Amos was the first celebrity to leave the competition before John Barnes and Myles Stephenson followed suit.
At the end of the first week, Thomas Skinner and Judi Love were sent through to the semi-finals.
Last week, viewers watched Phil Daniels, Dominic Littlewood, Sam Quek, Baga Chipz and Karen Gibson battle it out.
