The Chase star Anne Hegerty, 62, has reflected on a time she struggled to pay rent on her home, until a friend stepped in to get her out of the situation.
Recalling the difficult time, she explained: “What happened was that my flat in Manchester is a housing association flat – I own half of it and rent the other half – and I hadn’t been keeping up with my rent.
“The woman in charge of making sure people do that, knocked on the door, and she sort of just basically walked in and closed the door behind me and said ‘Right, we are going to get this sorted out’.”
Anne, who was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome aged 45, went on to thank her social worker Jeff McKenzie for helping her and also praised the show for changing her life.
“He saved my life and he was far more competent and efficient than I was,” she added on Kate Thornton’s White Wine Question Time podcast.
“I wasn’t good at really was keeping up with the paperwork,” she explained. “I’ve never been good at multitasking. I can’t really juggle things.”
Since joining The Chase, the quizmaster has gone on to front her own show Britain’s Brightest Families and she also competed on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2018.
In the earlier stages of the show, Anne admitted she was unsure if she could handle her stay in camp.
The quizmaster opened up about her late Asperger Syndrome diagnosis with her camp mates during the show.
